Fifty years ago the Appletons, Frank, Ariel and their children, began an experiment that some people said would end in doom: they transformed their Elgin Hereford Ranch into an ecological laboratory by removing their cattle and inviting researchers to study what would happen. A half-century later the experiment is still under way – the Appleton-Whittell Research Ranch of the National Audubon Society is going strong! Director Linda Kennedy will share the highlights of this amazing story at the January 13th Potluck & Presentation event.
Appleton-Whittell Research Ranch Living Gently on the Land Potluck and Presentation Educational Series events are scheduled the 2nd Saturday each month September through May each year (with the exception of December). We begin at 5 pm, with the potluck dinner at 5:30 pm, and the presentation immediately following. Unless otherwise indicated, tea, coffee and place settings are supplied. RSVP to Suzanne Wilcox.
