The Rio Salado Audubon Center’s after-school program for students in grades 3—6 is a multi-session nature exploration program. Activities take place in the Rio Salado Habitat Restoration Area, a 600-acre park featuring wetlands and wildlife, including jack rabbits, javelinas, beavers, muskrats, coyotes, snakes, lizards, dragonflies, fish, and over two hundred species of birds. For four weeks, students experience the wonders of nature through hands-on, fun lessons.
Participants will learn over the course of the program how to answer four key questions:
Why are reptiles important?
Introduction to the Rio Salado and Sonoran Desert Reptiles
Who lives in the sky and on shore?
Birds of the Rio Salado
What impact do humans have?
Mammals of Arizona
How does it all connect?
Food Web and Life Cycles
Typically, Audubon Southwest offers River Keepers in collaboration with after-school care programs for low income students. For more information contact Corey Lycopolus at 602-468-6470 x125.
